Part P Regulations

On the 1st January 2005 the Domestic Installer Scheme was introduced.

The Scheme was to safegaurd you, the consumer, by ensuring that ony reputable contractors can carry this logo like ourselves.

Under Part P Regulations all domestic work we carry out will be issued with an electrical completion certificate.

Why was Part P introduced?

The Domestic Installer Scheme of the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) provides registration services for enterprises that undertake domestic electrical installation work in accordance with Building Regulations, the UK national standard BS 7671 and related codes of practice. Those enterprises registered with the Domestic Installer Scheme are, and continue to be, assessed as competent to self-certify that domestic electrical installation work is compliant with the requirements of Building Regulations.

According to Government reports, defective fixed electrical installations in UK households cause around 30 deaths and over 1,150 serious injuries every year, and 12,500 fires in homes across the country are reported to have an electrical source of ignition, causing about 25 deaths and 590 non-fatal injuries each year. The Government believes that the increasing risk is due to the rising number and variety of electrical systems and appliances in the home and the demands being made on them. It is also attributed to the privatisation of the electricity supply industry in 1988, which lead to fewer electrical supplier interventions in consumer installations. Part P addresses these safety issues by requiring anyone carrying out work on fixed electrical installations in dwellings - the parts that are fixed to the building fabric such as socket outlets, switches, consumer units and ceiling fittings - to do so in accordance with BS 7671, the British Standard for electrical installations.
